The vocabulary you need before anyone can explain a chart, a chord chart, or a session to you.

Pitch

Interval

Scale

Key and key signature

Chord and triad

Chord progression

Tempo and BPM

Time signature

Syncopation

Harmony vs melody

Transposition

Cents

Octave

Semitone and whole tone

Equal temperament

Just intonation

Overtone series

Timbre

Cadence

Voice leading

Inversion

Diatonic vs chromatic

Polyrhythm

Swing and shuffle

Sample rate

Bit depth

Latency

Gain staging

Headroom

Polar pattern

Phantom power (48V)

Bounce / render / export

Stem

Nyquist frequency

Buffer size

Punch-in recording

Quantisation

Proximity effect

Pop filter and plosives

Room treatment vs soundproofing

Phase and polarity

Sample library vs sampler

Take folder / playlist

EQ (equalisation)

Compression

Sidechain

Reverb

Delay

Saturation and distortion

LUFS

True peak

Dynamic range

Limiter

Mid/side

Dither

Panning and stereo image

Bus and aux send

Parallel compression

Transient

Q and filter slope

High-pass filter

Automation

Reference track

Intersample peak

Oscillator (VCO/DCO)

Filter (VCF)

Subtractive synthesis

Modulation matrix

CV/Gate

Aliasing

Additive synthesis

Physical modelling

Ring modulation

Pulse width modulation

Portamento / glide

Unison and detune

Velocity sensitivity

Arpeggiator

Sequencer

Oversampling

Loudness normalisation

Buffer underrun / dropout

Sample rate conversion

Lossy vs lossless

Opus

Broadcast WAV (BWF)

Timecode (SMPTE/LTC)

Dante and AES67

Sample-rate clock and jitter

Work for hire

Distributor vs label

Performance royalty vs mechanical
