What New Plugins and Music Software Dropped This Fall? (November 2026)
Universal Audio Capitol Studios, native FATSO, FabFilter Pro-C 3, Splice Create and Native Instruments Super*Saw, straight from the companies' own announcements.

This fall gave producers a lot to try. You can now record in a famous Hollywood studio from inside your DAW. A cult tape compressor works without special hardware. Splice launched its own music app, and A. G. Cook helped design a synth built around the supersaw.
Here are the five biggest plug-in and software releases, with every detail taken from the companies' own announcements. For each one, we cover what it does, what it costs, and when you'd reach for it in a session.

What is Universal Audio Capitol Studios?
Universal Audio released Capitol Studios on November 4, 2026. It's a native room-modeling and reverb plug-in for macOS and Windows that costs $249. It puts Hollywood's Capitol Studios A and B in your DAW, along with the studio's microphones, processors, consoles, and its famous underground echo chambers. Those are the rooms behind decades of classic records.
The headline feature is Dynamic Room Modeling. You drag microphones around the room and hear the space change in real time, the way an engineer would move mics on a session. You also get a historic mic locker with setups curated by Capitol veteran Steve Genewick, plus Decca Tree setups for strings, horns, and vocal groups.
"Capitol Studios remains an integral part of record-making history, and we wanted to capture what makes these rooms special," said Will Shanks, Senior Product Designer at Universal Audio.
Try it on: a dry vocal recorded at home. Place it in Studio A, pull the room mics back, and the vocal sits in a real space instead of a bedroom. The echo chambers also work well as a send on snares and backing vocals.
Is the Empirical Labs FATSO plug-in finally native?

Yes. On October 13, 2026, Universal Audio announced native versions of the UAD Empirical Labs FATSO Tape Simulator for macOS and Windows, so you don't need UA hardware anymore. It launched at $79 intro ($149 regular) and is included in UAD Spark Studio.
It comes as two plug-ins. FATSO Jr covers the classic tones, and FATSO Sr adds deeper compression control. UA says it's the only authentic emulation of the original hardware, developed with FATSO designer Dave Derr.
- Four compression modes: Buss, G.P., Tracking, and Spank cover everything from gentle mix-bus glue to crushed drums.
- Warmth control: softens harsh high end the way tape does.
- Saturation: adds harmonic weight to thin sources.
Try it on: a drum bus in Spank mode blended in under the dry drums, or on a bass DI that feels too clean. It's one of the fastest ways to make digital tracks sound finished.
What's new in FabFilter Pro-C 3?

FabFilter released Pro-C 3, available immediately, along with a free Pro-Q 4.10 update. Pro-C 3 adds six new compression styles to the eight carried over from Pro-C 2:
- Versatile — general purpose for any material
- Smooth — gentle glue at low ratios and longer timings
- Upward — pumping upward compression
- TTM — downward and upward compression across multiple bands
- Op-El — warm, opto-style tube compression
- Vari-Mu — rich variable-mu character
A new Character panel adds Tube, Diode, or Bright saturation before or after compression. The side-chain EQ also grows from three bands to six. Pro-Q 4.10 adds multi-plug-in support to the Instance List, which FabFilter says turns the EQ into a full multi-track channel strip.
Try it on: vocals with Op-El for smooth, vintage-style leveling, or the mix bus with Vari-Mu at a low ratio. If you're still learning compression, pair it with our mix prep checklist so you don't over-squash before mastering.
What is Splice Create?

Splice launched Splice Create on November 5, 2026. It's a new DAW built around Splice's library of more than three million human-made, fully licensed sounds.
You can control it by voice or text, asking it to group drums, add effects, or handle repetitive tasks. Point Mode walks you through the interface and teaches production techniques step by step while you work on your own track.
"Most music tools either make the song for you, or assume you already know how to do everything. Create is different," said Splice CEO Kakul Srivastava. Splice says artists keep ownership of the original music they make in Create.
Try it on: your first few beats if a full DAW feels overwhelming. Because the sounds are licensed from the start, you can skip some of the clearance headaches covered in our guide on how to clear a sample.
What is Native Instruments Super*Saw?

Native Instruments introduced Super*Saw (pronounced "SuperStarSaw"), a synthesizer co-created with producer and PC Music founder A. G. Cook, known for his work with Charli XCX. It's built around the stacked-sawtooth sound behind 1990s rave, trance, and euphoric pop, and it folds all that layering work into one instrument.
"It's funny having my own synth plugin," Cook told NI. "It's something that's always been a bit of a goal of mine."
Try it on: a big chorus lead or a wide pad under a pop hook. Supersaws are everywhere in pop and hyperpop again, and this puts the sound in one patch instead of a stack of layered synths. Working on a budget? See our roundup of the best free synths.
