Two longtime Backwoodz affiliates finally in one room — horror-movie writing over production that keeps refusing to behave.

Both artists on Crayola Circles had been in the Backwoodz orbit for years without ever making anything together. The label's announcement calls the album a first collaboration of any kind between Fatboi Sharif and Child Actor, and frames it as new ground for everyone involved.

Sharif's register

The New Jersey rapper writes like someone editing a horror film in his head — hard cuts, grotesque images, sudden comedy. It is a style that can overwhelm ordinary beats, which is part of why the pairing works.

Child Actor's production

Child Actor has produced for Cavalier (CINE) and contributed to PremRock's solo album. The work tends toward warped melody and unstable arrangement rather than loops, giving Sharif surfaces to react against instead of a grid to sit on.

Why Backwoodz keeps making these matches

The label's house method is less A&R than introduction: put two artists with compatible instincts in the same project and stay out of the way. It is the same logic behind the collaborator map that runs through most of the catalog.
