How Does YouTube Music's New AI Label Work?
YouTube Music started labeling songs made primarily with generative AI on Oct. 14, 2026. Here is what triggers the label, where you will see it, and how it compares with Spotify, Deezer and Bandcamp.

On Oct. 14, 2026, YouTube Music began rolling out labels for songs "created primarily using generative AI," the company said in a YouTube blog post (opens in a new tab). The labels will later expand to the main YouTube app.
What counts as an AI song?
YouTube's example is a track made "using a generative model to create the composition and vocals." The Verge reports (opens in a new tab) the label covers tracks "altered or fully generated" with AI, not every use of an AI tool. Using an AI plugin to clean up a vocal is not the same as generating the whole song.
How does YouTube decide?
Two ways:
- Disclosure from music partners (labels and distributors) when they upload.
- YouTube's own detection tools. If there is no disclosure, YouTube says it may use "other signals."
Where will listeners see it?
Directly on the player page in YouTube Music. Tapping the label opens a menu with more information.

How do other services handle AI music?
| Service | Approach (as reported by The Verge) |
|---|---|
| YouTube Music | Label on AI-generated tracks, partner disclosure plus detection |
| Spotify | Voluntary AI label; won't recommend songs from "AI personas" |
| Apple Music | Reportedly getting an AI tag |
| Deezer | Switch to filter out AI tracks |
| Bandcamp | Banned AI music outright |
What should artists do?
- Disclose honestly when your distributor asks about AI. A wrong answer can get caught by detection anyway.
- Keep your session files in case a human-made track is mislabeled.
- Know the difference between AI-assisted tools and AI-generated songs. Our plugin explainer covers the tools side.
